President

Mary Sui Yee WONG

Coordinator of the Visiting Artists Program at Concordia University (Montreal, QC), Mary is an educator, community arts advocate, and visual artist who developed a connection to traditional Chinese performing arts through the teachings of her father Toa Wong, a master musician of Cantonese Opera. Mary has curated two photo and costumes exhibitions for the collective - the Beauty of the White Peony: The Mei Lan Fang Centennial at the Maison de la culture Frontenac, and Autumn Melodies: A Centenary Celebration of Peking Opera Master Cheng Yan Qiu at the City of Toronto's Todmorden Mills Heritage Museum. Mary is also an honorary member of Club Symphonique Cantonaise "Yuet Sing" in Montréal.

Jeffrey CHAN

Jeffrey is the founder of the Wu Ming Dance Project, an organization that aims to express Asian philosophies and contemporary social identities through Chinese traditional and modern dance. Jeffrey started his dance training in Hong Kong with Chinese classical and ethnic folk dancing. He first encountered Graham techniques at the London Contemporary Dance School in England. After his immigration to Canada, he expanded his dance training in other modern techniques including: Cunningham, Limon, and Horton. Chan’s first full-evening program was premiered in November 2000 in Toronto. Since 1995, he has created twelve original modern dance works.

Meena WONG

Meena has extensive experience in the arts, non-profit, culture, IT, political and education sectors. Aside from her involvement with the collective, Meena also serves as a Board director for the Asian Canadian Writers Workshop (ACWW), as well as Secretary for the Civic Education Society (CES). In a previous incarnation, Meena worked in the provincial and municipal level governments.

Janet LUMB

Born and raised in Toronto for twenty years, Janet also lived in Vancouver for ten years, before settling in Montreal for the majority of her earthly life. Janet worked in social services with juvenile delinquents and autistic children for 16 years. Working with juvenile delinquents complimented her pursuits as a musician. Since ‘75, she has played and toured with bands across Canada and internationally. As a sax player working with dancers, actors and painters, she has been discovering her visual interests as a composer for film music for over 15 years. As Director of Accès Asie (established in 1995), Janet merges her passions for the arts, culture, community and social activism.

 

London, England Representative

Veronica Yang

Veronica Yang graduated with High Distinction from the Arts Management program at the University of Toronto in 2006. She has been a Artistic Associate at the Harbourfront Centre, where she has programed festivals such as the Hot & Spicy Food Festival, the Island Soul Festival, and founded the Dim Sum Chinese Festival. In 2007, Veronica was the Festival Coordinator of the 15th Annual Junction Arts Festival. She is relocating temporarily to London, England to continue to pursue her career in the Arts, and looks greatly forward to be part of LPGC's tremendous growth as a new board member.
